What Makes a Good Design?
It is not that different from software:
Use Cases
Prototypes for client approval
Deep Analysis
Reusability
Standards
Who are your users?
Data entry people: paid by the completed item, not by the keystroke
What do they want: fast, simple, keyboard-driven
Managers: Paid to analyze, think, plan
What do they want: Patterns, flexibility, drill-down, side-by-side, “What if…”
Prototypes
They don’t have to work!
Must show reasonable data,
not blank forms!
Use these to interview clients,
work out flow
Emphasize flexibility
Show often, review, revise
Less is better
A good interface is not noticed
